Decision to list medical devices supplied by Jackson Allison Medical & Surgical Limited

Hospital devices Consultation

What we’re doing

We're pleased to announce the approval of a listing agreement with Jackson Allison Medical & Surgical Limited (“Jackson Allison”) for the supply of medical devices in the following categories:

In summary this will result in:

  • Listing of medical devices in the medical and surgical instruments and power tools, and sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables categories supplied by Jackson Allison in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 April 2025 under a national agreement that all Health NZ hospitals may purchase under (“Agreement”); and
  • Health NZ hospitals being able to continue to purchase other suppliers’ brands of medical devices in these categories as the Agreement is not for sole supply.

Detail about this decision

In 2021, Pharmac issued a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for the supply of surgical implants, medical and surgical instruments and power tools, and associated products. The RFP was for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule.

In 2021, Pharmac issued a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for the supply of sterilisation, and decontamination equipment and associated consumables. The RFP was for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule.

Pharmac has been working with suppliers who responded to these RFPs and were successful in being progressed to contract negotiation to seek provisional agreements. This is the latest proposal to arise from these processes.

Health NZ hospitals can continue to choose which medical devices they purchase, including those from other suppliers. Health NZ hospitals that purchase medical devices in these categories from Jackson Allison must do so under the terms and conditions, including pricing, in the agreement from 1 April 2025.

The list of products will be available on Pharmac’s website from 1 April 2025.
