Choosing the right continuous glucose monitors (CGMs)

There are two standalone CGMs to choose from.

We are working with a variety of different groups to get more information about CGMs and insulin pumps. This includes comparison tables, FAQs, how to use the devices, and information for health care practitioners.

Do I need a smartphone?

We understand that using a smartphone to read your CGM might not work for everyone. Each CGM offers different ways to read the data from the device.

Some suppliers have a standalone reader device available.

What if I change my mind?

You can swap between the two funded CGMs when you get a new prescription. You do not need a new special authority. Just ask your doctor to prescribe the other CGM.

There will be differences in how each CGM works. You may need advice on getting the most out of your CGM.

Learning how to use CGMs

We are working with the suppliers of CGMs and diabetes support groups to develop resources so people can get the most out of their CGM.

We will add more information once it’s available.

What happens if one or more are faulty?

We know that sometimes technology doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. Reach out to the supplier or your pharmacist in the first instance.
