Ypso Pump training dates

Pharmaco, has alerted Pharmac to some unusual ordering patterns of the Ypso Pump.

We have been made aware of some people told us that some people are receiving their Ypso Pump a long time before they are doing their pump training.

Please know that you will not be able to use your Ypso Pump until you have had your training and have been given an activation code.

Please collect your Ypso Pump, from the pharmacy, close to your pump training date.

Supply status of the FreeStyle Libre 2

Stock has arrived with the supplier and has been released to wholesalers. It may take another one to two weeks for stock to make its way through supply chains to pharmacies around the motu.

Nationwide Pathways went live from 25 September 2024. Regional Pathways went live after this date.

Supporting people on a MiniMed 770g insulin pumps

We understand from clinical advice we received that there may be some people who cannot transition from their Medtronic insulin pump to an alternative option. There is a form you can fill out to apply for consideration of continued funding through our exceptional circumstances process for these people.

Pharmacy brand switch fee

A brand switch fee for the dispensing of CGMs applies from 1 October 2024 to 1 January 2025.

A brand switch fee provides support to pharmacists providing education and counselling to people being dispensed these devices for the first time.

Health New Zealand funds this payment. Pharmac and Health New Zealand will monitor the uptake of devices to understand if this needs to be extended in the future.

More about brand switch fees

Prescription charges

We have been made aware that some pharmacies are charging additional fees for Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices. We would like to clarify that CGM devices listed on the Pharmaceutical Schedule are fully funded, meaning that pharmacies should not charge anything more than the prescription co-payment (typically $5).

We encourage pharmacies to contact your wholesalers for clarity on your terms of trade to secure the best possible deals for your business. We also remind you that any additional charges passed on to the patient must be in line with your Integrated Community Pharmacy Services Agreement (ICPSA)(external link).

Contact Health New Zealand(external link) if you have questions about the ICPSA.
