Prescribing and supplying an unapproved medicine
Section 29 of the Medicines Act 1981 allows for medicines that are not Medsafe approved to be prescribed and supplied to people. The medicine must be prescribed by someone registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand – such as, a doctor.
We know supplying a medicine under section 29 is not ideal. In this case, however, this will allow patients to be able to access an appropriate treatment.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

Prochlorperazine - AA out of stock
The supplier is now out of Prochlorperzine - AA. There may still be stock in the supply chain. The product remains funded currently so pharmacists can continue to claim it.
Why is Nausafix now listed as s29?
Nausafix s29 is now being supplied. It is not currently Medsafe approved because the supplier of the active ingredient (API) has changed. The active ingredient remains the same and in the same quantity.
Once the new API has been approved by Medsafe, the pharmacode will change back to 2528886. We expect that this change will happen by 1 February 2024.
Key dates
28 November 2023 - Nausafix - s29 (Pharmacode 2670445) listed.
By 1 February 2023 (TBC) - Nausafix hopefully approved by Medsafe. The pharmacode will revert to 2528886.
