Consultation on childhood immunisations

OIA response

Thank you for your request dated 23 February 2024 under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) for information relating to childhood immunisations. You requested:

Official information request: Feedback/consultation on proposal to allow Pharmacy to deliver childhood immunisations.

Please supply the following information under the [Official Information Act (OIA) / Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA)]:

  1. How many feedback submissions were received in total .
  2. How many submissions were in favour of the proposal.
  3. How many submissions opposed the proposal.
  4. Who reviewed the submissions. If a group, what was the make up of the group by profession and employment.

This consultation was run jointly by Pharmac and Health New Zealand. The information in this response relates to the feedback held by Pharmac. Please note that many of the responses did not have a clear indication of their position on the removal of restrictions from relevant vaccines, to enable pharmacies to deliver them. A number of submitters also  discussed the wider implementation plan that would be managed by Health NZ.

  1. How many feedback submissions were received in total.

Pharmac received 347 responses in total.

  1. How many submissions were in favor of the proposal.

Of the submissions received, 65 were considered “supportive/or conditionally supportive if certain implementation steps are in place/addressed”.

  1. How many submissions opposed the proposal.

There were 282 unsupportive or conditionally supportive feedback. However, we note that a number of these responses indicated that they could, or would, support the proposal if concerns were addressed through Health NZ’s implementation plan.

The common themes raised throughout the feedback have been published on our website under the section; Our response to what you told us.

The responses were reviewed to assess whether the concerns raised could be addressed or mitigated though Health NZ’s implementation plan.

  1. Who reviewed the submissions. If a group, what was the make-up of the group by profession and employment.

We have interpreted this question to mean, ‘Which Pharmac staff were involved in viewing and collating the feedback for a decision by the Pharmac Board
