Decision to list an additional copper intra-uterine contraceptive device
PHARMAC is pleased to announce a decision to list an additional copper intra-uterine contraceptive device (copper IUD), Choice Load 375 (“Choice Load 375”), which has a five-year therapeutic effect.
In summary, the effect of this decision is that from 1 May 2016:
- Choice Load 375 will be listed in Section B and Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule.
- Choice Load 375 will be subsidised only on a Practitioner’s Supply Order (PSO) with up to 40 devices subsidised on any one order.
The existing listings for copper IUDs (Choice TT380 Short and Choice TT380 Standard) will be unchanged by this decision. Choice Load 375 will provide a treatment option for patients for whom the Choice TT380 Short and Choice TT380 Standard (with a five year and ten year therapeutic effect respectively) are clinically unsuitable.
All three copper IUDs (Choice Load 375, Choice TT380 Short and Choice TT380 Standard) are supplied by Boucher & Muir (New Zealand) Limited via an agreement with PHARMAC.
