Topicaine (Lidocaine [Lignocaine] hydrochloride with adrenaline and tetracaine hydrochloride): Hospital supply issue

Affected product

Due to capacity limitations at Biomed, many Biomed products are facing supply constraints. Pharmac is working closely with hospitals and Biomed to set manufacturing priorities.

Biomed is out of stock of Topicaine (Pharmacode 2288737).

Alternative product

Clinical advice suggested lidocaine Inj 2% with adrenaline 1:200,000, 20 ml vial (pharmacode 693200) would be a suitable alternative. 

Please use the larger presentation where possible to reserve the smaller presentation for those who need it most.

Expected resupply September/October 2025 

A small amount of stock has been produced and is undergoing quality control checks. Another batch is being made by mid-September 2025. If all stock meets quality checks, supply will be constrained but stock should remain available.
