Needles and syringes

Pharmac is undertaking national contracting for needles and syringes products purchased by Te Whatu Ora for use in hospitals or in the community across New Zealand.

Contracts will continue to be added to the list below as Pharmac consults on provisional agreements and completes the supplier negotiation process.

Included within the scope of needles and syringes

  • Blunt Fill Needles without Filter
    • Bevelled and non-bevelled blunt fill needles without filters, various lengths and gauges
  • Blunt Fill Needles with Filter
    • Bevelled and non-bevelled blunt fill needles with attached filters for large and/or particulate matter, various lengths and gauges
  • Allergy testing needles;
  • Biopsy or diagnostic procedure needles and syringes
  • Conventional needles and syringes, including:
    • hypodermic needles (including ‘safety’ needles)
    • hypodermic syringes (including, luer-lock, luer-slip, catheter tip, eccentric tip syringes, colour coded and ‘safety’ syringes)
    • hypodermic syringes with fixed needles
    • tuberculin syringes with or without fixed needles
    • glass syringes
    • needle caps or protection devices/accessories
  • Diabetes management needle and syringe products including:
    • lancets
    • insulin needles
    • insulin syringes
  • High pressure syringes
  • Syringes used for suction and irrigation purposes including bulb syringes and ear syringes
  • Mixing and withdrawal products, including:
    • admixture (mixing) needles
    • blunt fill needles
    • filter needles and straws
    • vented needles & air inlet needles
  • Anaesthesia speciality needles and syringes, including:
    • epidural needles
    • loss of resistance syringes
    • spinal needles (lumbar puncture needles)
    • spinal aspiration needles
    • retrobulbar needles
    • peripheral nerve block needles
    • ultrasound and nerve stimulation needles
  • Thoracentesis, paracentesis and pericardiocentesis needles and syringes
