More information
Parasidose is registered with Medsafe for treatment of head lice, (see http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/(external link)).
The listing of Phenothrin 0.5% shampoo is to ensure continuity of supply for treatment of head lice infestation to manage an unforeseen stock shortage of Para Plus 90 g spray.
Note to community pharmacies
If pharmacy is presented with a prescription for Para Plus 90 g spray and this is unavailable, pharmacies will be able to substitute with Parasidose 0.5% shampoo by contacting the prescriber by phone and annotating accordingly. Alternatively, patients could go back to their prescriber to have a new prescription issued.
Note that the 100 ml bottle of Parasidose provides approximately the same number of head lice treatments as one bottle of Para Plus 90 g.
