Decision to list medical devices supplied by Paragon Care Group New Zealand Limited

Hospital devices Decision

What we’re doing

We are pleased to announce the approval of a listing agreement with Paragon Care Group New Zealand Limited (“Paragon”) for the supply of medical devices in the following categories:

Anaesthetic machines, invasive ventilators, neonatal care and critical care patient monitoring devices (“Critical Care”)

Patient assessment, monitoring and treatment devices

Surgical implants

In summary this will result in:

  • Listing medical devices supplied by Paragon in the above categories in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 August 2024 under a national agreement that all Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora ("Health NZ") may purchase under; and
  • Health NZ hospitals being able to purchase other suppliers’ brands of medical devices from the above categories as the agreement is not for sole supply.

Detail about this decision

Pharmac issued the following Requests for Proposals (“RFPs”) for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule:

The RFPs were for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule.

After completing the RFP evaluation processes, and consulting on the provisional agreement with Paragon, Pharmac has decided to list Paragon’s Critical Care, patient assessment, monitoring and treatment devices and surgical implants in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 August 2024.

Health NZ hospitals can continue to choose which medical devices they purchase, including those from other suppliers. Health NZ hospitals that purchase medical devices in these categories from Paragon must do so under the terms and conditions, including pricing, in the agreement from 1 August 2024.

The list of products will be available on Pharmac’s website from 1 August 2024.
