Notification to list medical devices supplied by Downs Distributors Limited and Surgico Medical and Surgical Limited
We’re pleased to announce the approval of listing agreements with Downs Distributors Limited (“Downs”) and Surgico Medical and Surgical Limited (“Surgico”).
What we’re doing
In summary this will result in:
- Downs’ and Surgico’s Orthopaedic Products and Single Use Instruments being listed in the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 June 2018 under national listing agreements that all DHBS may purchase under (the “Agreements”).
- DHBs continuing to be able to purchase other suppliers’ brands of Orthopaedic Products and Single Use Instruments as the Agreements are not for sole supply.
- Savings of approximately $16,000 across all DHBs, based on historical volumes.
Any changes to the original proposal?

Detail about this decision
In 2016 PHARMAC issued separate Requests for Proposals (“RFPs”) for Orthopaedic Products and Single Use Instruments. The RFPs requested proposals for non-exclusive national agreements for listing in the Pharmaceutical Schedule.
After completing the RFP evaluation process, and consulting on the provisional Agreements reached with Downs and Surgico, PHARMAC has decided to list Downs’ and Surgico’s Orthopaedic Products and Single Use Instruments in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 June 2018.
The range of medical devices included in the Agreements is set out below:

DHBs that purchase Downs’ and Surgico’s ranges of Orthopaedic Products and Single Use Instruments must do so under the terms and conditions, and at the prices, included in the Agreements, from 1 June 2018.
DHBs can continue to choose which Orthopaedic Products and Single Use Instruments they purchase.
Educational services will be provided by the suppliers, on the appropriate use of their medical devices, at times as agreed with individual DHBs.
These Agreements are the latest to be approved in these categories and further consultations in these categories are expected over the next few months.
