Decision to list medical devices supplied by Geistlich Pharma New Zealand and Ivoclar Vivadent Ltd
We are pleased to announce the approval of listing agreements for the supply of medical devices to DHBs.
What we’re doing
We are pleased to announce the approval of a listing agreement with Geistlich Pharma New Zealand (“Geistlich”) and Ivoclar Vivadent Limited (“Ivoclar Vivadent”) in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 March 2023 for the supply of:
- Dental and oral health products; and
- Sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables.
In summary this will result in:
- Geistlich’s dental and oral health products being listed in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 March 2023 under a national agreement that all Te Whatu Ora Hospitals may purchase under (“Agreement”); and
- Ivoclar Vivadent’s dental and oral health and sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables being listed in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 March 2023 under a national agreement that all Te Whatu Ora Hospitals may purchase under (“Agreement”); and
- Te Whatu Ora Hospitals being able to continue to purchase other suppliers’ brands of the medical devices as the Agreement is not for sole supply.
Any changes to the original proposals?
This decision was subject to consultation letters dated 17 January 2023:
No changes were made to the original proposals as a result of consultation feedback.

Details about this decision
Pharmac has previously issued Requests for Proposals (“RFPs”) for:
- supply of dental and oral health products
- supply of sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables
The RFPs were for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule.
After completing the evaluation processes, and consulting on the provisional agreement with Geistlich and Ivoclar Vivadent, Pharmac has decided to list Geistlich’s dental and oral health products and Ivoclar Vivadent’s dental and oral health products, and sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 March 2023.
Te Whatu Ora Hospitals can continue to choose which dental and oral health products, and sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables they procure, including those from other suppliers. Te Whatu Ora Hospitals that procure dental and oral health products, and sterilisation and decontamination equipment and associated consumables from Geistlich and Ivoclar Vivadent must do so under the terms and conditions, including pricing, in the agreement from 1 March 2023.
Our response to what you told us

All consultation responses received by 7 February 2023 were considered in their entirety in making the decision to list Geistlich’s and Ivoclar Vivadent’s medical devices. No significant consultation feedback themes were raised.
