Fentanyl 12.5 mcg patch: Packaging update

Medicine update Active

Sandoz are changing how the strength of the 12.5 mcg fentanyl patch is written on the package.

Dose remains the same

Sandoz are changing how the strength is written – from 12.5 mcg to 12 mcg. The dose itself remains the same. The patch still releases 12.5 mcg an hour.

This approach aligns with what other similar products do and helps avoid confusion with a potential prescribed dose of 125 mcg.

1 May 2025 new listing for new packaging

The 12 mcg packaging has a new Pharmacode and Pharmac is listing it from 1 May 2025

We have prepared a flyer to support pharmacists' conversations with people affected by this change.
