REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Thank you for your email, requesting a response to the following:

  • Why did the number of declined exceptional circumstances applications for lamotrigine decrease between 5 December 2019 and 18 December 2019?
  • Did some of these declined applications subsequently get approved?

On 15 November 2019, PHARMAC widened the criteria for the exceptional circumstances applications for lamotrigine.  Some exceptional circumstances applications that had originally been declined were subsequently approved under the new criteria.  This resulted in the fluctuations to the number of declined applications showing on the PHARMAC website.

Your request for this information has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).  We trust that our response answers your queries.  We are making our information more freely available, so we will now publish selected OIA responses (excluding personal details) on our website.  Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about this.

Yours sincerely
