Proposal to list Accu-Chek Ketur-Test

Following a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the supply of diabetes management products dated 26 August 2011, PHARMAC has entered into a provisional agreement with Roche Diagnostics NZ to list Accu-Chek Ketur-Test urinalysis strips in Section B and Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule. In summary, this proposal would result in:  Accu-Chek Ketur-Test urinalysis strips being fully funded from 1 June 2012 with the following restriction: Maximum of 50 strips per prescription; not on a BSO.

All feedback received before the closing date will be considered by PHARMAC’s Board (or Chief Executive acting under delegated authority) prior to making a decision on this proposal. Details of the proposal Accu-Chek Ketur-Test urinalysis strips would be listed in Section B and Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule at the following price and subsidy (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST) from 1 June 2012: Chemical Sodium nitroprusside Presentation Test strip Brand Accu-Chek KeturTest Pack size 50 Price and subsidy $6.00

Accu-Chek Ketur-Test urinalysis strips would have subsidy and delisting protection until 1 July 2015. Background In August 2011, PHARMAC began an RFP process inviting proposals for the supply of diabetes management products which included urine ketone test strips. Details of the RFP can be found at the following link: http://pharmac.govt.nz/2011/08/26. Following the evaluation of all RFP proposals, in relation to urine ketone test strips, PHARMAC has formed a provisional agreement with Roche Diagnostics New Zealand for the supply of Accu-Chek Ketur-Test urinalysis test strips. The current listing of blood ketone test strips (Optium Blood Ketone Test Strips) would not be affected by this proposal. However, Bayer has indicated its intention to delist its ketone urinalysis strips (Ketostix) when an alternative product has been listed.
